The minute I landed Hong Kong and hit back to IFC Central, I feel the energy and the vibe, gosh!!! I never cherish this, but I do now! OMG, I just love this city! The sense of cosmopolitan, the urban/proper way of dressing (trust me, it’s like heaven from hell), the fashionable touch, the sophistication, the MOOD!!! I just wanna dedicate this post to Hong Kong, to be specific- the women in Central HK, the very women who walk on that flyover between IFC to Alexandra House from 1730-1930 and on, it’s a fuckin’ catwalk right there. I saw Nicholas Kirkwood, or was that Zara? It doesn’t matter. When u’d seen tons of Fugs for weeks (‘n I meant it) for 2-3 weeks, u want something’ to stimulate, to ‘Ting’ your eyes (as my former big boss whom I look up to said, as stimuli).

OK! How does one differentiate the local Hong Kong and Mainland Chinese women? Two brands! Real local HK tasteful women would no longer carry those 2 brands, unless they’re… , no, there’s no unless. They’d go for designer bags like Alexander Wang, YSL, Azzaro, Balmain, Pucci, Proenza Schouler’s PS1, Roger Vivier,  or simply Hermès. what more do you want???

Remember? Circa 2004-5, when all of a sudden, the presence of Alber Elbaz at Lanvin, Stefano Pilati’s early work at YSL and Olivier Theyskens chez Rochas formed the demure yet powerful french coquettishness within seasons? That sensation came naturally and acted almost as an antidote to sooth the post-Tom Ford era. Six years have passed, a lot has changed. Something similar happened once again in Paris last October for spring 2010. Apart from team Céline-Phoebe Philo, Nina Ricci and Rochas, both companies formerly hired Theyskens hosted the first official show for their new creative director: Peter Copping and Marco Zanini. On the other hand, Rodolfo Paglialunga, a former assistant at Prada presented his first collection for Vionnet, a historic couture house bought by Matteo Marzotto, a former GM and president of Valentino SpA, one of the heirs of the Marzotto Group, a powerful textile group established in Italy since 1836. (Matteo Marzotto also announced that some additional strategic development is to be provided by Gianni Castiglioni, CEO of the fashion brand Marni.)

A lot of people appreciate and share the same feeling towards Vionnet’s approaches so far, similar to Azzaro and Roger Vivier, they keeping it small, running it organically, and not churning bags in a hurry are all baby steps necessary to become a real luxury brand today and future. And I figure that the next ones will be Elsa Schiaparelli and Carven. Vionnet SS 2010 collection is now available at Département Féminin, Toulouse; Maria Luisa, Paris; The World of Joyce, Hong Kong; as well as Net-a-Porter, UK.

  1. <The Gentlewoman>’s cover girl: Phoebe Philo by David Sims. She really pushes that flesh colour, doesn’t she?
  2. ‘Paola’, Azzaro’s newly developed bag creation alongside ‘Hanovre’, ‘Hambourg’ and, how forward~ ‘Hangzhou’(杭州), an upcoming sub-provincial city in China! Plus, don’t forget to become a fan of Vanessa Seward’s feline friend Monsieur Joe on FB.
  3. Anna! Anna ‘n more Anna!! Dello Russo, not Wintour. Love her or hate her, ADR’s still very intriguing to many.
  4. <ÉDITIONS LA MARTINIÈRE - Yves Saint-Laurent, l’Œuvre Intégral, 1962-2002>. Would angel kind enough to get this €2,100 gift for me pleeaaase, thank you very much in advance~
